SUMMARY:Kirtan - music meditation for healing (Newton)
DESCRIPTION:Many people think of Yoga as physical exercises to enhance one’s physique\, with an occasional short meditation for its calming effects. But that is only the tip of the iceberg. How do we we deal with our intense human emotions or trauma that accumulated as we progress in our lives?\n \n\n\n\n\n  \nAccording to ancient yoga\, the human body is made up of the multiple layers—physical\, mental\, emotional; and there are many practices to bring light to our being. \n  \nEmotions are vital and sacred; like pockets of energy waiting to be released; emotions are not obstacles but our guiding lights to finding the ultimate bliss in life. The ancient yogis gave us Bhakti Yoga\, the yoga of devotion\, to channel that energy and guide us back to our source. \n  \nBhakti is about a relationship with the universe and it is all encompassing that it embraces every color on the emotional spectrum. In Bhakti Yoga\, we lead with our hearts. We sing\, we dance\, we play music\, write poetry\, cook\, paint and do everything with love —as part of our interaction with the Divine. \n  \nKirtan\, the practice of chanting mantras\, is perhaps the most important technique in bhakti yoga (Man means “Mind” and Tra means “to Control”). \n  \nThe practice is simple but internally it works magic in our hearts. Externally\, we’re just repetitively singing with simple melodies and a few Sanskrit words. But it helps us to put our analytical minds aside and singing from within. We sing from our heart that is crying out for love. We channel whatever emotion we’re feeling into our voice. \n  \nDeep healing happens\, walls will melt\, wounds will heal\, trauma will heal\, hate & unforgiveness will dissolve. Long-submerged emotions come to the surface. \n  \nAs we sing\, we immerse ourselves in an endless river of love from the universe. And we enter into a meditative & blissful state that allow our hearts to heal and re-open the infinite universal source of love within us. \n  \nThere is no need to understand the language of the mantra. No need for mental speculation nor any intellectual adjustment. It is automatic\, from the spiritual platform\, and anyone can take part without any previous qualification. \n  \nLocation: \nMindful Space Pte Ltd \n10 Winstedt Road Block A\, #02-02 Singapore\, 227977 \n  \n  \nPay as you wish \nDrop a donation on the actual day. All donation proceeds to the expenses of hosting these programs run by volunteers. This event is organised by a group of volunteers who just love kirtan so much that they like to share their joy. \n  \nThings to note: \n\nWe will be barefoot\nPlease wash your hands before entering the studio\nWe will be sitting on the floor but plenty of chairs available if you prefer chairs\n\n  \nThings to bring: \n\nWater bottle\nScarf/jacket if you are afraid of cold from Aircon\n\n  \nWhat we will be doing: \n\nShort lecture about the practice\nSinging in the musical meditation\nEnjoy a homecooked Sattvic dinner together

SUMMARY:Sembawang Heritage Tour: Rediscovering Little Kerala in the Little Red Dot
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to dive into the vibrant tapestry of Sembawang’s history! \n  \nLanguage: English \n  \nPROGRAMME SYNOPSIS: \nSembawang is renowned for its vibrant history\, having been home to a rubber estate\, the British naval base and multi-ethnic communities. However\, did you know that Sembawang was also affectionately called Kochu Keralam or “Little Kerala” in yesteryears? This was due to the large Malayalee community who lived and worked there\, forming key associations such as the Sree Narayana Mission\, Naval Base Kerala Library and Singapore Kathakali Yogam. The Malayalees hail from the South Indian state of Kerala and form the second largest sub-ethnic group within Singapore’s Indian population. Join us for a weekend of engaging bus tours as we explore selected historical areas and landmarks on the National Heritage Board’s Sembawang Heritage Trail. The tours will be led by independent researcher Marcus Ng\, who conducted research for the trail. Additionally\, selected members of Singapore’s Malayalee community who grew up in Sembawang will join us\, sharing their personal stories of life in the heartlands to add a unique and heartfelt layer to our journey. \n  \nFees: $10 \n  \nPLEASE NOTE: \n\nThis is a paid programme organised in conjunction with the Indian Heritage Centre’s ongoing special exhibition – Ente Veedu\, My Home: Malayalees in Singapore.\nThe tours on both dates will commence at the Indian Heritage Centre. Registration will begin from 9:30 AM. Please gather at the Special Exhibition Gallery\, Level 2 by 9:45 AM for a short introduction to the Ente Veedu\, My Home: Malayalees in Singapore special exhibition. We will then proceed to board the bus to begin the Sembawang Heritage Tour at 10:00 AM.\nPlease wear comfortable shoes and attire\, and do bring along an umbrella/raincoat\, face/hand towels or wipes\, mosquito repellent and a water bottle.\nLight snacks and drinks will be provided. Additionally\, there will be a stop for a toilet break and to purchase food and beverage along the way.\nThe tour will conclude at Sree Narayana Mission. Return transportation will not be provided. The tour (inclusive of travelling time) will be approximately 3 hours in total.\n\n  \nABOUT THE EXHIBITION: \nCo-curated by the Indian Heritage Centre and Singapore’s Malayalee community\, Ente Veedu\, My Home: Malayalees in Singapore is an ongoing special exhibition that showcases the rich history and heritage of the Malayalees—the second largest sub-ethnic group within Singapore’s Indian population. Featuring over 200 artefacts alongside audio-visual displays\, interactive stations and personal anecdotes\, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the concept of “home” through the lens of the Malayalees. Through four thematic zones\, the exhibition offers insights into the community’s ancestral roots and their dedication to preserving cultural heritage\, forging a distinctive identity and fostering a sense of home and belonging in Singapore. \n  \nABOUT THE SEMBAWANG HERITAGE TRAIL: \nOrganised by the National Heritage Board\, the Sembawang Heritage Trail is a self-guided heritage that introduces you to 31 sites spread across the heartlands of Sembawang. You may embark on three different thematic routes to uncover major milestones and lesser-known stories in Sembawang’s past. SUMMARY:Kirtan - music meditation for healing (Little India)
DESCRIPTION:About this event\n\n\n\n\nMany of think of Yoga as physical exercises to enhance one’s physique\, with an occasional short meditation for its calming effects. But that is only the tip of the iceberg. How do we we deal with our intense human emotions or trauma that accumulated as we progress in our lives? \n  \nAccording to ancient yoga\, the human body is made up of the multiple layers—physical\, mental\, emotional; and there are many practices to bring light to our being. \n  \nLocation: \nAshtanga Yoga Nilayam Studio \n68B Race Course Road Singapore 215871 \nIt is on the 3rd floor of the shophouse\, the door (which is camouflage to look like a wall) is in between the restaurant ‘Sakunthala’. \n  \n  \nPay as you wish \nDrop a donation on the actual day.

SUMMARY:Singapore Sikhs - Talk
DESCRIPTION:Dear Friends\, \n  \nWe are pleased to share that CSTC and NLB in association with the Singapore Khalsa Association (SKA)\, the Sikh Advisory Board (SAB)\, and the Young Sikhs Association (YSA) will be bringing you a special introduction to the Singapore Sikh community – a rich and diverse sub-ethnic group among Singapore Indians. A community that has been in Singapore since the days of Stamford Raffles and which has produced soldiers\, scholars\, professionals and politicians\, among others. And the community that gave the world the pulsating Bhangra dance! \n  \nSikhism is one of the world’s youngest major religions\, dating back to the late 15th century. Yet\, the 25 million adherents of Sikhism are distinctly visible worldwide\, including the 12\,000 to 15\,000 in Singapore. The Sikh\, meaning a ‘disciple’ or ‘learner’\, is committed to the core tenets of Sikhism\, which is a way of life that uniquely weaves together art\, culture and faith. This amalgamation is deeply influenced by the principles of equality\, social justice\, service to humanity and tolerance for other religions. \n  \nJoin us on a journey to gain insights into the essential philosophy and cultural practices of the Sikhs! You’ll also get a glimpse of their artifacts\, dance\, music and\, of course\, a taste of their unique cuisine! \n  \nWe hope you will come\, see\, and enjoy the presentation! \n  \nLooking forward to seeing you on Saturday\, 25 November at the POD\, NLB at 5pm! \n  \nConfirm your seat by registering soonest – limited places!
