SUMMARY:Language and Literacy Development through Songs\, Movement and Stories
DESCRIPTION:About this Programme: \nDo you remember singing nursery rhymes and simple songs from childhood? If the first part of a familiar melody and song text is given\, most of us will finish singing the song.  Often as we hum these melodies\, we think of other songs we learned during our early school years\, and we realize that we can still sing many of these from memory. \n  \nMUSIC! How can children learn or live without it? The similarities between literacy acquisition and musical development are indeed many. The successful acquisition of reading and writing skills in early childhood depends on a solid background in oral language development. What better way to gain knowledge and confidence in oral language than through music? \n  \nFees: Fully subsidised for eligible participants with family PCI $1000 & below. \n  \nEligibility: Open to all Indian Parents with children aged 3 to 6 years old\, who are Singaporean Citizens or Permanent Residents with PCI $1000 & below. \n  \nThe Zoom link for the session will be sent separately to your email after registration and processing the application. \n  \nEnquiries: Ms Barveen T: 1800 295 3333 / E: queries@sinda.org.sg

SUMMARY:Tamil & Sanskrit: The Two Eyes of Siva (Talk)
DESCRIPTION:By virtue of their antiquity\, independent tradition and rich body of ancient literature\, both Tamil and Sanskrit are among the great classical languages of the world. They spawned vastly different and independent legacies in language and literature. Perhaps\, no one knows this better than Professor George Hart\, a rare American scholar of Tamil and Sanskrit\, who received his PhD in Sanskrit from Harvard University in 1970 and has been a Professor of Tamil at the University of California\, Berkeley since 1975. He also played a seminal role in securing the status of “classical language” for Tamil from the Indian government. \n  \nCSTC & NLB are delighted to invite you to a talk in English by Prof. Hart titled “Tamil & Sanskrit: The two eyes of Siva” where he will shed light on how Tamil and Sanskrit\, together formed the intellectual culture of ancient India.  \n  \nThis talk is jointly organised by the Centre for Singapore Tamil Culture and the National Library Board. \n  \nZoom Meeting Details: \n  \nhttps://nlbsingapore.zoom.us/j/99175623345?pwd=U2FlTzdhejhHZ0RvMUhvOFdQTWYzZz09 \n  \nMeeting ID: 991 7562 3345 \n  \nPasscode: 602252 \n
