Mediacorp’s line up of entertainment this Deepavali season, includes several shows that will be seen for this first time on TV. These include: Sarpatta Parambarai, a sports action film showcasing the 1970s boxing culture and politics in North Chennai; Thalaivi, a biographical drama based on the life of Indian actress-politician J. Jayalalithaa, and Kasada Thapara, a collection of interlinked short stories.
The Deepavali countdown show, Amarkala Deepavali, will return on Deepavali eve (November 3, 10 pm) with familiar faces – Vasantham artistes Jaynesh Isuran, Udaya Soundari and Saravanan Ayyavoo. They will be joined by artistes Karthikeyan Somasundaram, Gunalan Morgan and Sajini Naidu, doing live crosses from Little India.
Amarkalam Deepavali will also feature Vasantham artistes Prasanna Ramesh, Pavithra Nair, Vishnu Balaji and recent Nenjukulle winner Abdul Jalil. Vasantham Star alumni Satthia will perform a special rendition of this year’s Deepavali song Navarasa Deepavali, which he composed, alongside several other Vasantham singers.
Across November 3 – 7, there will be a range of movies (in Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam and Telugu) and other infotainment programmes. These include a special episode of cooking variety show Un Samayal Arayil, the telemovie Adukku Veetu Annasamy Season 2 Deepavali Special, and Blk 414D, a story about a mysterious good Samaritan helping families prepare for Deepavali.
