Bharatanatyam 101 By Apsaras Arts

March 12, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Goodman Arts Centre's Bharatanatyam 101 By Apsaras Arts

Introduction to Bharatanatyam: One of the Classical Dance forms of India

  • Duration: 60mins
  • Meeting Point: Goodman Grows Community Farm
  • Fees: S$5
  • Age Group: 5 to 10 years

There is a general perception that Indian Classical dance cannot be appreciated because of language barriers or the art form is simply unfathomable. The workshop aims to break this mindset by introducing the fundamental aesthetics of Indian Classical dance in both its indigenous and modern contexts in a simplified and yet easily understood manner.

The structured lecture-demonstration will include the use of visual presentation and “live” demonstration by the students of Apsaras Arts. References to nature, animals, common folklore stories, history, architecture and carefully selected social elements will be used in the lecture-demonstrations to help participants easily identify with the subject matter. In so doing, participants will develop a comfort level and confidence in attempting to watch an Indian Classical dance repertoire, hence nurturing and developing a keen interest in the appreciation of the Indian Classical dance form.
