The success stories of 45 Indian businesswomen are captured in “Doyenne Volume 2” the follow up to the first book launched in 2017.
Doyenne Volume 2 features successful businesswomen from a very varied group of trades, from education centres, dance schools, provision shops, beauty parlours, funeral parlours to restaurants. Well-known names such as Kavitha Thulasidas of Style Mart, Rajalakshmi Kannappan of Abirame Jewellers and Rajeswari Sankaranathan of Colours Boutique are featured.
The businesswomen were honoured at the book launch event “Doyenne Night Book Launch cum 10th year Anniversary Celebrations” held on November 25, 2022 at Marina Bay Sands, where they received a copy of the book from President Halimah Yacob.
At the event, member of parliament for Sembawang GRC, Vikram Nair, also made a $2,000 donation to Daughters of Tomorrow Ltd. Daughters of Tomorrow supports underprivileged women in Singapore, helping them to achieve financial independence and to enable social mobility for their families.
It takes a lot for these ladies to be involved in business as they juggle with family and other commitments.”

The event and the book were organised by the Little India Shopkeeper Heritage Association (LISHA)’s women’s wing.
Founder and Chairperson of LISHA Women’s Wing, Ms Joyce Kingsly, said: “There are many Indian women involved in business. We wanted to bring them to light as it takes a lot for these ladies to be involved in business as they juggle with family and other commitments.
“Each of them has a unique and inspiring story to share. The compilation of these 45 women is a colourful sight with each of them dressed in saree, posing positively, projecting victory,” she added.
Founder and Director of Morning Glory Learning Hub, Ms Theebaletchmi d/o Govindaraje, one of the businesswomen that Doyenne Volume 2 features, described her secret to success: “Believe in yourself, set a goal, work towards your goal, never give up till the end.”
The event was the 200th event organised by LISHA Women’s Wing.
