SINDA is very heartened by Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s announcement today to stand in the upcoming Presidential Election.
Mr Tharman was instrumental to the founding of SINDA, having served as a Member of the Action Committee on Indian Education (ACIE) in 1990. The efforts and recommendations of the ACIE would evolve to become the foundation of SINDA’s mission – to build a well-educated, resilient and confident community of Indians that stands together with other communities in contributing to the progress of multi-racial Singapore.
Since its founding, Mr Tharman has been prominent and active in SINDA’s efforts for the Indian community. He was appointed as Chairman, SINDA Board of Trustees from 2008.
Mr Tharman’s vision, experience and limitless passion have firmly guided SINDA in its mission to serve and uplift the Indian community. The policies and strategies conceived during his tenure have contributed to the Indian community’s overall social, economic and educational progress in the last three decades.
Even as Mr Tharman helmed several portfolios over the years, he has always found time to meet with SINDA’s community of students, families and beneficiaries to understand and address their needs. That people from different facets of society have urged him to stand for the Presidential Election is testament to the positive difference he has brought to countless lives.
SINDA, our network of partners and the Indian community extend our deepest gratitude to Mr Tharman for his dedication and passion towards the betterment of all Singaporeans, and we wish him every success.
