Needy children the focus at SINDA’s activity-filled SG60 Carrnival

SINDA's SG60 Carnival

Around 100 children and families from lower-income households came together yesterday at THE LEGACY, One North, for the Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA)’s SG60 Carnival: Building Bonds, Celebrating Heritage.

The event, held to mark Singapore’s 60th birthday, offered participants an afternoon of activities, heritage showcases, and performances aimed at fostering family ties and encouraging national pride.

The carnival was the last event in a month-long series of SG60 programmes organised for SINDA beneficiaries. Earlier activities included a cycling expedition, a learning journey to Mount Imbiah Trail, a “Jewel Changi Heist” challenge, and an art workshop where children created 3D models envisioning a sustainable Singapore. These artworks were later displayed at the carnival.

Highlights of the celebration included a presentation of children’s art pieces, a fashion show featuring costumes inspired by occupations that have shaped Singapore’s progress, and a mass dance session conducted as part of the GetActive! Singapore Workout – Dance of the Nation.

A mini pasar malam with old-school games and traditional snacks was also organised. A “pay-it-forward” booth, run by single mothers from SINDA’s Project Athena initiative, invited attendees to take part in art activities, offering the mothers an opportunity to engage with the community.

SINDA Chief Executive Officer Mr Anbarasu Rajendran said the event was not just a celebration but also a way to reflect on Singapore’s shared journey. “SG60 is an important milestone that reflects the shared strength, growth, and aspirations of our community,” he said. “This Carnival was a meaningful platform for families to come together, celebrate Singapore’s heritage, and look towards the future with hope and pride.”

According to SINDA, the event was part of its ongoing efforts to “build a strong community.”

“By bringing celebrations closer to in-need families, SINDA continues to create meaningful opportunities for bonding, while empowering them to play an active part in Singapore’s continued journey of progress,” the statement added.
